Differences Between Single and Double Solenoid Valve
The solenoid valves can be divided into the double-solenoid type and the single-solenoid type. The double-solenoid type has two solenoid coils, while the single-solenoid type just has one.
The slide valve of the single solenoid valve features the spring resetting. After the solenoid valve is disconnected with power, the solenoid valve automatically resets. The double solenoid valve requires the coil on the other side to get electrified before its transposition.
The single solenoid is switched on under constant power-on and air inlet, while the double solenoid is switched on at instant power-on.
The single solenoid valve just has two positions—one position under the action of spring when there are no signals and the other is the position under the action of electromagnetism when there are signals. The double solenoid valve features the three-position valve. When there are no signals, the double solenoid valve stays at the middle, and the piston moves to the piston with signals and pipeline breakover is realized. After disconnection with power, the piston resumes to the middle position.
The single solenoid valve is just like the single-acting pneumatic cylinder, which has spring resetting. The power-on side is pulling (coil excitation) and the power-off side is pushing (spring resetting). The double solenoid valve is just like the double-acting pneumatic cylinder, which has no spring resetting. The two coils just have one excitation and adopts the working mode of one pushing and the other pulling.
For example, since the cigarette lighter just operates for a short time each time and it withdraws for most of the time, the single-coil short-term electric input is adopted and withdraws under power-loss. DCS will just emit one impulse which is adequately long and input by the fire gun. In contrast, oil gun requires long-term input or no matter in which direction it withdraws, the oil gun cannot ensure the solenoid valve to be connected with power for a long time. Therefore, DCS just emits the withdraw signals with a short impulse to ensure the oil gun solenoid valve to operate under any required state when the solenoid valve is not connected with power.
5/2 way solenoid valves: single vs double solenoid
The two-position and three-port solenoid valve usually features the single electric control. On the contrary, the two-position and five-port solenoid valve has not only the single-solenoid structure, but also the double-solenoid structure. Then, what are differences of the single solenoid valve or the double solenoid valve?
The two-position and five-port solenoid valve is usually used together with the double-acting pneumatic cylinder. To choose the single solenoid valve or the double one relies on the processing requirements.
The two-position and three-port single solenoid valve is applicable to the double-action air cylinder. When there is no air supply, it is FL, and no FC or FO exists. When there is no power supply, there is FC and FO.
The two-position and five-port double solenoid valve functions on the double-action air cylinder. When there is no air supply, it is FL, and there is no FC or FO; When there is no power supply, it is FL, and there is no FC or FO.
The broken-down position of the pneumatic valve is the position which loses the air supply. Generally, the single two-position and five-port solenoid valve is adopted, and is applied to the double-action air cylinder.
